The HAPA Writing Assessment is given as a common assessment to all students in public schools who feed into Hartford Union High School. It is given in spring to students in grades three, five and seven. The assessment is scored using a rubric designed as part of the 6+1 Traits writing assessment system. The actual assessment is given over a two day, two class period time frame. On day one students read a writing prompt, plan their writing and write a rough draft. On day two students edit and revise their rough draft and write a final draft. The HAPA Writing Assessment is scored by teams of teachers over a period of several days in June. Individual results are reported to parents and schools that students attend. School, district and consortium results are reported to all consortium members.
